Care for the Chase

The UK equates to 2.5% of the European land mass yet is home to 20% of its heathland, a predominately dry and open landscape with heather, gorse, bilberry, cowberry and crow berry and the occasional tree.

Heathland is fast disappearing from the British landscape with 80% lost in the last 150 years, so it is important that we look after what remains.  The heathland is home to species that are perfectly adapted to this landscape and are becoming increasingly rare.

Understandably we humans are drawn to these wide open landscapes and approximately 3 million visitors enjoy walking, cycling and horse riding on Cannock Chase each year.
