Ground Nesting Bird Season
IT’S BIRD NESTING SEASON!
March 1 – August 31
TO KEEP THE BIRDS SAFE IN THEIR NEST, MAKE SURE YOUR DOG BEHAVES ITS BEST!
Cannock Chase is home to vulnerable ground-nesting birds, such as nightjars and woodlarks.
They nest and feed on the ground through the summer months and they need our help.
These rare and amazing birds and easily disturbed by well-meaning people and inquisitive dogs.
Nightjars and woodlarks nest on the open heath and in areas of forestry clearings.
Keeping dogs on a lead in these areas during the breeding season can help with preventing unintentional disturbance.
Don’t forget that adders bask during this season and are known to bite dogs who get too close.
Away from these areas and outside of the breeding season, please be aware the Chase is still home to a host of wildlife.
Ensure your dog is within sight and recall distance at all times and remember to clean up after them.
If you lose your dog or find a missing dog, please report it to the RSPCA (0300 1234 999).
Please keep dogs on their leads during this time of year if you cannot rely on its obedience
– Sincerely, the Birds
