This summer we held our first Heath Week on Cannock Chase to celebrate the special qualities of a habitat rarer than rainforest and raise awareness on what we can all do to help Cannock Chase’s Heathlands thrive.
The week saw a range of events aimed at appealing to a range of visitors:
A guided ride ran by The British Horse Society
Two mornings of family activities at the Museum of Cannock Chase
Volunteer task day with The Ramblers and Staffordshire County Council Rangers.
Nature craft activities with Tanglewood Days at Cannock Chase Visitor Centre.
Guided walks on the special nature of heathland and on invertebrates on Brindley Heath.
Activities at Cannock Chase Visitor Centre with the SAC Partnership team, Wildlife & Rural Crime Police team and Staffordshire Fire & Rescue.
A drop-in session with Amphibian & Reptile Groups UK as part of the Chase Adder Project.
We also shared lots of information online for people enjoy with contributions from the Midlands Bird Club, Forestry England and The Friends of Cannock Chase.
We are already making plans for Heath Week 2025 (26th July – 3rd August) get in touch with us at cannockchase-sac@staffordbc.gov.uk if you would like to be part of it!
