Castle Ring Hill Fort

Castle Ring Hill Fort

Castle Ring is an Iron Age Hill Fort located at the Southern end of Cannock Chase. Enjoy the circular walks and take it the views at 795 feet above sea level, it is the highest viewpoint in the AONB and a scheduled ancient monument.

There is evidence that suggests people lived here since the Iron Age. Unfortunately little information exists to learn more about its early use. It is believed the site was abandoned when the area was conquered by the Romans. Earthworks show that there was once a hunting lodge on site believed to be built in Medieval times when Cannock Chase was royal hunting ground.
