You are now looking at some of the ancient and veteran oaks that make up Brocton Coppice.
There is nowhere else like it in Staffordshire, Brocton Coppice has the greatest density of ancient and veteran trees in the county.
- The ancient oak trees are the remains of the forest that once stretched across the royal hunting ground that was much larger than Cannock Chase is today.
- Each tree is an ecosystem supporting a whole range of wildlife include birds, bats, invertebrates and insects, lichen & fungi.
- These trees are vulnerable and sensitive to human impact.
What you can do to help
- Keep to the paths and bridleways
- Avoid standing on/ cycling over any tree roots
- Leave sticks/ dead wood where it is for fungi and invertebrate species
- Clean up after your dog.
